The short answer
A cTrader account can be linked to third-party software through the cTrader Open API, which authorises access over OAuth without your broker password ever being shared. AiTradely connects this way. It reads your open positions, the price you were actually filled at, the margin your broker locked and your live profit and loss, and it can place an order once you confirm it. Your broker holds your account and your money throughout.
How the connection works
- You start the link from Settings. AiTradely sends you to cTrader's own authorisation screen.
- You approve access on cTrader's domain, not ours. Your broker credentials are entered there. AiTradely never sees your password.
- cTrader returns an access token which AiTradely stores encrypted and uses to read your account and submit orders you confirm.
- Positions then sync every five minutes, server-side. Your portfolio stays current whether or not the app is open on your phone.
You can revoke access at any time from your cTrader ID, or disconnect inside AiTradely, which removes the stored token.
What we read from a connected account
Without a broker connection a portfolio is an estimate assembled from what you typed in. With one, it matches what your broker actually did:
- Open positions as your broker holds them, including ones you opened somewhere else entirely.
- The real entry price you were filled at, rather than the price the analysis suggested.
- The margin your broker actually locked, which is often not what a generic calculator predicts.
- Live profit and loss on every open position.
What it will and won't do
This is the part worth being precise about. The access token AiTradely receives carries cTrader's trading scope, which is what allows an order to be placed at all. The limit on unattended trading is a deliberate design decision in AiTradely, not a technical restriction of the token, and we would rather say so plainly than imply a guarantee the protocol does not provide.
| Action | Allowed | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Read positions and P&L | yes | Server-side sync every five minutes |
| Prepare an order | yes | Entry, stop and target pre-filled from the analysis |
| Execute an order | on confirm | You approve each order in a confirmation sheet |
| Trade unattended | no | There is no autonomous trading mode in the product |
| Withdraw or transfer funds | no | AiTradely never requests or moves money |
| Hold your money | no | Your broker holds the account throughout |
Getting a cTrader account
cTrader is provided by brokers, not by us, so whether you can use it depends on who holds your account. Many brokers offer cTrader alongside other platforms, and some offer it exclusively. A cTrader account from any broker supporting the Open API can be linked to AiTradely.
If you are choosing a broker, our brokers page covers what to look for. Nothing on this page depends on using a particular one.
What we don't support
MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 are not supported. cTrader is the only platform AiTradely connects to. If your account is MT4 or MT5 there is nothing to connect and no workaround, and since MT4 and MT5 are far more common than cTrader, that will be the honest answer for most people reading this.
Everything else in AiTradely works without any broker connection at all: the analysis, the risk and reward maths, the strategy builder and the alerts. A broker link changes your portfolio from an estimate into a record. It is not a requirement.
Common questions
Is connecting a cTrader account to AiTradely safe?
Authorisation happens on cTrader's own domain using OAuth, so your broker password is never entered into AiTradely and never reaches us. You can revoke the connection from your cTrader ID at any time, and disconnecting inside AiTradely removes the stored token.
Does AiTradely place trades automatically?
No. AiTradely can prepare an order with the entry, stop and target already filled in from its analysis, but nothing is sent to your broker until you confirm that specific order. There is no autonomous or unattended trading mode.
Can AiTradely withdraw or move money from my account?
No. AiTradely never holds, requests or moves funds. Your broker holds your account and your money throughout, and AiTradely only reads position data and submits orders you have confirmed.
Do I have to connect a broker to use AiTradely?
No. Every other part of AiTradely works without a broker connection. Connecting one replaces estimated portfolio figures with what your broker actually recorded: real fill prices, the margin it locked, and live profit and loss.
Does AiTradely support MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5?
No. cTrader is the only trading platform AiTradely connects to. If your account is MT4 or MT5 there is nothing to connect and no workaround.
